About Monkeys

There are around 260 species of monkeys living in tropical forests across Africa, Asia and South America. They’re divided into two main groups: Old World monkeys (with non-prehensile tails, like baboons) and New World monkeys (with grasping tails, like spider monkeys). Apes — chimps, gorillas, orangutans, bonobos — aren’t technically monkeys (no tails!) but they’re closely related. Monkeys are highly intelligent: they use tools, recognize themselves in mirrors, and have complex social lives. Did you know capuchin monkeys wash their food before eating?
